While we are navigating through the summer months of 2021, there is a constant feeling of uncertainty about how our service to society includes the highly valued connections between people that were enjoyed by Rotary Rotarians in earlier times. While the motto of "hands-face-space" will certainly be part of routine in our club, it is evident that trust is growing and more people are making face-to-face interactions. Rotary is changing. In the months leading up to the summer of 2021, it is unclear the way we'll provide support to the community that includes the valued human connection that was enjoyed by Rotary previous members. While the motto of "hands-in-space" is certainly a component of our routines It is clear that confidence is growing as are the more direct interactions. Rotary has changed. Volunteers from the community clean up garbage. The network of Rotary makes lasting connections epidemic was the catalyst that opened our eyes to the technology of this Rotary world. We've honed our methods of holding the business meetings online as well as reintroducing service and social activity with a secure face-to-face setting. To create an exciting new future, we've taken this opportunity and combined them with some of the most efficient pre-pandemic practices. A recent Rotary survey, we were encouraged to see that around 75 percent of clubs are making plans for their "business as usual' events" The summer months are full of club members on the move, focusing on initiatives such as cleaning the beach and river, litter picking, and of course providing ongoing services to the society of Rotary volunteers who volunteer their time and energy to help COVID vaccine and test centers. Rotary Support Centre staff continues to offer valuable tools that help promote these many projects and ensure that the infrastructure is maintained to keep members and the public safe; compliance and insurance are essential. We are aware that volunteering via the community of Rotary creates lasting friendships built by the common experience of giving time for community benefits. Our members' creativity and ingenuity when dealing with some of life's most challenging problems is astounding. I am thankful for the opportunities Rotary gave me in 2002 with the opportunity to become an official member. Rotary has provided me, just as it has for so many other people an extensive network that is a safe and dependable group of people with similar interests to which I've developed genuine friendships over the past 20 years.
